API’s global internship programming will support your success and engage you in activities designed to refine specific skills, our on-site staff will orient you to the international workplace culture, and guide you through in-person and virtual cultural workshops as well as local visits. Capstone your experience by earning a digital badge that you can add to your LinkedIn profile, e-portfolio, personal websites, digital resumes and more.

  • Application deadline is 4 months prior to the intended start date
  • You will arrive 3-4 days before the internship placement begins
  • You have the option to complete an 8, 10 or 12-week internship in most sites during the academic year
  • All summer internship sessions are 8 weeks only.

  • Participants who wish to earn academic credit from API’s School of Record, Nichols College, will incur an additional fee.

8, 10 and 12-week API interns participate in 2-3 excursions. Cultural events may also be available alongside study abroad students. Availability may vary and participants are given the full excursion schedule prior to arrival on-site.

Civil Engineering Internship

This company develops a cladding support system that when combined with a flat sheet product provides a weathertight drained and ventilated cavity system. The intern will assist with CAD-focused assignments and other 3D drawings, related design tasks, and other office work.

Film Internships

This internship is at a non-profit organization responsible for hosting the annual film festival which showcases local New Zealand and international film. Internship placement duties include filming key events of the film festival. Other duties include editing and producing promotional footage for company content and future film festival events and managing the company’s Vimeo channel.

Hospitality Internship

This accommodation is a fresh, vibrant, newly refurbished top floor facility situated in the heart of the city. The intern will shadow the general manager, assist with front office and customer relations, and promote tourism activities/tours.

Our internship program includes safe and secure housing in the cost of the program fee. Housing types and amenities will vary by location but may include apartments, hostels, and rental homes. Participants in Auckland will have a double share bedroom in a furnished apartment.

Internship participants should expect the accommodation to be centrally located and easily accessible to public transportation. Each participant’s commute will vary, as internship placements are located in different areas in each location. Average commute times range from 30 minutes up to an hour. Housing placements may be mixed
