Be sure to check back often to learn more about where in the world you can go with #APIabroad! Today we’re focusing on our friends down under… in Brisbane and Gold Coast, Australia!

Brisbane
Brisbane – home of Griffith University

Study at one of Australia’s most prestigious universities

Our API programs here enroll students at Griffith University. With campuses in Brisbane and Gold Coast, Griffith was founded in 1970 with the goal of offering new degrees in progressive fields and integrating immersive teaching. Since that time, it has grown to rank in the top 2% of universities worldwide in many areas of study.

This program is a great option for students who want to tackle a variety of subjects. Courses are offered in business, education, creative and visual arts, health, music and more. In addition, students can study tourism and hospitality, criminology, engineering… we could go on and on!

Internship, Research & Volunteer Opportunities

Griffith offers a 10 CP (3-4 U.S. semester credits) Internship Program! It provides an opportunity for students to develop a range of personal and professional skills by combining volunteering with academic learning. Students will volunteer at a variety of places; everything from schools to government departments to nonprofits!

The 50-hour minimum volunteering activity may be related to your areas of study, or it can serve as an opportunity to explore working with an organization outside of your normal discipline working context. In addition, being able to add an “internship abroad” to your resume holds added benefits!

If you’re studying engineering or a related field, consider joining Griffith’s Internship Research Project! This course is equivalent to a full-time study load and provides students with the opportunity to undertake a research internship with an academic supervisor.

Specialized Certificate & Honors Program Options

If you’re studying arts/humanities, education, law, environmental management, international business, marketing, multimedia or sustainability, listen up! Griffith also offers a specialized certificate option for students in those areas. If you complete at least 3 courses from one of the above specialities, Griffith provides you with a Specialized Semester Certificate to help you stand out in a crowded job field after graduation.

Griffith also offers an Honors Program. This option includes one-on-one sessions with a Griffith Honors College Manager, where the student and manager put together a professional development plan. Students also are paired up with a current GHC student buddy, usually based on the same study area or personal interests. If you have a very specific “dream career” in mind, the Honors Program is a great way to make sure you’re taking the right steps to get to where you want to go!

Students at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Why go abroad with API?

Our on-site staff want our students to really get to know their host city! That’s why they took students on excursions across Australia and also to volunteering and cultural events.

Your program begins with a 3-day orientation in Byron Bay where students stay in a hostel, explore the area, and get to know each other. In addition, there are excursions throughout the semester, including a trip to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This trip allows students to visit with unique Australian wildlife such as koalas, dingoes, wombats and of course kangaroos! You’ll also attend an AFL football game, volunteer at Lions Head Park, tour rainforests, and enjoy dinner in Gold Coast at the Skypoint Observation Deck (77 floors up!). The best part? All of this ( and more cultural events) are included in your program cost!
