Study abroad in Brisbane

Want to study abroad near the Great Barrier Reef? API’s Full Curriculum Program at Griffith University is a perfect option for you! Nestled just 4 hours from the Great Barrier Reef, Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city as well as the capital of Queensland. In 2014, Brisbane was named “Australia’s Hippest City”, and in 2003 it won the coveted award of “World’s Best Downtown”. Of course, these are just a few of the many reasons why you should consider studying abroad in Brisbane.

Study at one of Australia’s top universities

Griffith University is ranked as the top creative arts school in Australia. It’s also in the top 2% of universities worldwide. Along with its AACSB accreditation, Griffith University is known as the first university in Australia to offer degrees in Asian studies and environmental studies. In addition, the university is considered a leader in many other fields.

Griffith is home to two campuses: The Nathan Campus (where courses include options in business, government, humanities, languages, engineering, law, science, aviation & more) as well as the South Bank campus (for students studying music, performing arts, visual or creative arts). Both campuses are centrally located in Brisbane and near beautiful museums and/or delicious food options within the city.

Internship and & Certificate opportunities

Griffith offers a 3-4 U.S. semester credits elective course to some students who are further along in their education. This 50-hour minimum internship placement provides a chance for students to explore working in their discipline studies or even working with an organization outside of their normal discipline learning context. Past placements include schools, government departments, nonprofits and more.

The university also offers a certificate program for students who want to dive into a specialized area of study. The certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete at least 3 courses from one of the available specialties, including arts/humanities, education and law, environmental management, international business, marketing, multimedia, and sustainability.

Amazing excursions included in your program cost

In addition to the Great Barrier Reef, API’s on-site staff will take you on excursions across Australia. Spring 2020 students plan to visit Gold Coast Hinterland, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and more. Orientation is held in Byron Bay, where API students have the chance to get to know each other and to explore the new region. You can also expect fun activities planned for you throughout the semester, including kayaking the Brisbane River, attending an Australian Rules Football Game, volunteering with an environmental restoration group, and even going on a Kangaroo Point Cliffs adventure!

Live with other students in an apartment complex

Housing for students in Australia is similar to many U.S. campuses. Students will be placed in a student apartment complex within a 20-25 minute walk/bus ride to all Brisbane campuses. Each student has their own private bedroom. Common areas include a kitchen, dining/lounge room, and bathroom.
