Draping Design- API Summer Courses at Parsons Paris

September 26, 2017

Over the course of the next several months, we plan to feature some of our favorite summer course offerings. This week we’re profiling Draping Design.

The Parsons Paris Pre-College Summer program allows you to experience Paris from an insider’s perspective by exploring the history of European art and design firsthand in the many museums and design studios throughout Paris. The program is open to all undergraduate college students who wish to deepen their art and design knowledge and develop their skills in a rigorous academic environment.

In the world capital of Haute Couture, students will explore draping techniques to translate their creativity into volumes and lines. Students will experiment artistic and playful tools that help them to develop 3D pieces on a mannequin, starting from a personal visual research.

Students will discover the techniques of the greatest masters of French Couture, from Madeleine Vionnet to Madame Grès, and understand the various ways of constructing innovative cuts and volumes around the body. The pictures of the drapes made in class will complete the students’ portfolio if they plan to apply for a fashion design program.
