Study & intern in Auckland – API Program Spotlight

April 10, 2019

It’s not too late to study abroad in beautiful Auckland, New Zealand this fall! We’re accepting applications for our Fall 2019 Direct Enrollment Program through Aut University until April 15th. This is one of those “best bang for your buck” programs as it includes opportunities for an internship in addition to coursework. Here’s a little more about why this program is a great one!

Study at one of the top universities in the world!

AUT University is very well-known for its programs, and has been ranked as one of the top universities in the world for social impact and sustainability by the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings. For students interested in the environment, sustainability, and planning for our future generations, AUT is a perfect choice.

Choose from a traditional study abroad experience and an internship track

All students who enroll at AUT University will learn alongside local Kiwis as well as international students from over 85 countries! There are over 4,000 students at AUT. This program is also a great fit for a wide variety of majors. Students can choose from coursework in everything from wildlife conservation to web development.

In addition, AUT University offers a semester-long study-internship track. This option, equivalent to full-time status, awards 12-16 semester credits and provides students with a part-time supervised work placement in their chosen field, along with 2 mainstream AUT courses. The internship placements can be found in most fields, however they are not available in health/medical fields specific to human medicine.

Classes taught in English, with options to learn more about the Maori culture through API excursions!

For students who aren’t focused on learning a second language, New Zealand is a fantastic choice. Courses are taught in English but there is still plenty of opportunity to learn more about a different culture.

Not only does AUT offer classes on Maori history and customs, API takes students to Noho Marae for one of our amazing excursions. This excursion provides an authentic introduction to New Zealand’s history. We’ll also take you on a big tour of Auckland to help you get acquainted to your new home for the semester!

Other excursions you’ll take include a tour of Hobbiton (aka the set of The Lord of the Rings films), a trip to Sky Tower (the Southern Hemisphere’s tallest free-standing structure), and a night at a Blue’s Rugby game! In addition, we also visit Rangitoto Island and take a weekend flight out to Rotorua for zip-lining, taking a luge down a mountain (!!), relaxing in thermal mud pools and more.

Give back to your host country

One of API’s favorite traditions for our students is allowing them the opportunity to give back and say thank you to their host country and city. In Auckland, our students take part in various volunteer projects, including working with the local SPCA, beach cleanup projects, fundraising for cancer and blindness charities, and more.
