Over the course of the next several months, we plan to feature some of our favorite summer course offerings. We recently covered Design and Food Cultures here. This week we’re profiling Graphic Design Workshop.
The Parsons Paris Summer program allows you to experience Paris from an insider’s perspective by exploring the history of European art and design firsthand in the many museums and design studios throughout Paris. The program is open to all undergraduate college students who wish to deepen their art and design knowledge and develop their skills in a rigorous academic environment.
One of those courses is the Graphic Design Workshop. Graphic design is everywhere around you—posters, websites, T-shirts, packaging. It is a medium in which words and images merge to communicate powerful messages. In this hands-on course, students learn creative problem-solving techniques and the basics of form and expressive typography.
Through projects, students learn to employ narrative and storytelling methods and engage in design research, analysis, documentation, and implementation. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between the individual, creative and critical thinking skills and the designer’s role within the professional arena. Topics covered include creation of the elements of brand identity programs, such as logos, publications, advertisements, and websites.
