API FAQ’s & Upcoming Application Deadlines

October 18, 2018

The time is now to apply to study abroad! We have several application deadlines coming up in the next few days. You’ll find them at the bottom of this post, but today we wanted to start out with an FAQ on some of the most common questions we get from applicants this time of year.

1. My form is marked as “Pending”! When will this be marked off?

We are marking off all received forms as soon as we can! At this time, it typically takes 3-5 days to mark off pending forms.

2. Did you receive my transcript / letter of recommendation / mailed forms?

Please be patient with mailed items such as official transcripts, as mail does typically take about 5-7 business days to reach us once it is mailed by you/your school. Your school may even take a few days to process your transcript request, which can add to the time it takes to arrive to us. Once it does, typically it will be marked as “complete” within 2 business days.

3. Can you accept an electronic transcript?

We accept electronic transcripts for SOME programs, but not all. The following locations and programs require a hard copy sent to our API Abroad offices: all Australia programs, all New Zealand programs, GEM Grenoble, all Cuba programs, UPO Seville (if GPA is below a 2.9), all Florence programs, Taormina, Rome LdM, 3 Cities Program (Italy), Tuscania, UAE, Barcelona’s Universitat Popeu Fabra & Universitat de Barcelona programs.

4. Who can write my letter of recommendation?

Your letter of recommendation must come from someone who has taught you for at least one semester at the university level. This can be a professor, assistant professor, graduate assistant, lecturer, etc.

5. My application is complete. How long does it take to receive an acceptance?

Semester students:If you have completed all materials that are available to you API may be able to issue you an acceptance (or provisional acceptance) within 5-7 business days of everything being marked as ‘complete’ in your @api account. Provisional acceptances designate that you meet all requirements for admission to the program, but we cannot fully accept you until the host university confirms your acceptance as well.
