API Safety Update – London Bridge

June 3, 2017

Earlier this evening a van drove into a crowd of pedestrians on the London Bridge, resulting in multiple casualties. Another incident followed shortly thereafter, wherein injuries resulted from a stabbing at a nearby restaurant. British authorities have designated both as terror incidents.

API has confirmed the safety of all API England staff and students, with the exception of one student who has not yet responded to multiple attempts to contact him through various modes of communication. The student’s family and home institution have been made aware that we are still awaiting confirmation of his safety. We will continue to try to reach him, and will update his family and his home institution as soon as his safety is confirmed.

All API students and staff have been advised to shelter in place, to monitor media and to follow recommendations from local authorities. We will remain in close contact with all program participants and will continue to provide them with guidance as events develop. Students are encouraged to contact our Resident Directors at any time if they have any questions.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims of these terrible incidents.

UPDATE 6:30 PM CST – API has now confirmed the safety of ALL API England staff and students.
