Is it hard to be accepted into API programs?

Though many of our programs have GPA requirements, we recommend applying even if you fall below that requirement. API wants to send you abroad! There are times when we make exceptions depending on the student and their overall application.

How long does it take to be accepted after I submit the application?

After submitting your application, you should hear from API within 5-7 business days. Keep an eye out! API will send you a formal acceptance letter via email once you are accepted.

I submitted my application a while ago, why haven’t I heard anything?

If we haven’t reviewed your application, it could mean your application is missing some important forms. Be sure to double check everything is submitted, and reach out to us if you run into trouble!

How do I go back and change something on my application?

We get it, mistakes happen! The good news is you will have the opportunity to update aspects of your application after you hit submit. If you know your program coordinator, feel free to reach out to them. If you are unsure, reach out to our Student Outreach Team either by chat or email ([email protected]), and they will assist you!

What is the internship placement process?

To start, you may apply for 1-3 positions in your desired location. Keep in mind, though, the placement process is on a “first-come, best-fit” basis! Once you complete your application, all of your Onboarding Step 1 forms, and submit your confirmation payment of $400, you will meet with one of our Career Coaches to make sure your Resume and Cover Letter align to your applied position(s).

After your Career Coaching session, our on-site staff will reach out to your potential employers and confirm the best-fit internship. Finding the best-fit internship can take around 4-8 weeks. During this time, we will reach with updates along the way and to set up an interview with any potential employers.

Once an employer confirms they would like to move forward, we provide an offer letter confirming your placement information. (Which you will then review and sign). The sooner you can complete your application and Career Coaching, the sooner we can confirm your placement!

All of API’s internship opportunities are available to view in our Program Finder

What’s due on the application deadline?

Our requirements vary depending on the program. During the application process, we recommend you pay close attention to the program you choose. For all programs, though, you will need to complete Onboarding 1 forms after submitting any required fees. You may read more about onboarding forms and the full application process in this blog

What are my course options?

Students can find their course options two different ways. The first option: go to the program page that interests you, and scroll down to “Academics” to view the course options there.

Can I apply to multiple programs and then decide on which one I want?

Applying for study abroad is not like applying for college. You don’t need to apply to multiple programs to ensure you will get to study abroad. This is because most students who meet a program’s GPA requirement and who have a clear disciplinary record should be accepted into the program. If you are applying for a highly rigorous program, it is still better to apply for only one program at a time. If you can’t decide between a few programs, we can provide one-on-one advising to help narrow down your choices. If you do apply to a program and change your mind, in most instances we are able to make a change to another one as long as neither your current nor desired program is less than 60 days from the program start date.

How do I request a roommate?

You can request a roommate in the Housing portion of the application. However, be mindful that both you and your friend need to request each other as roommates.

Are flights included in my program price and when should I arrive?

Flights are not included in the cost of the program. However, API discounts on academic travel with our Fare Finder app — which is available in your APIConnect account that is created when you start your application. Once you are accepted to your program, you can find the specifics of your travel in APIConnect under “Student Travel Arrangements.” Here, you will find more details about when and where you will be arriving to begin your journey abroad!

Do you know a place where I can find a breakdown of the cost of the whole program?

When viewing the program page, you’ll see “Application Details” on the left side of the screen. Under “Starting Price” you’ll find a hyperlink that reads “See price breakdown here”. Click that link and a breakdown of the program will appear in a popup.

Is the start date on the program when I should arrive or when classes start?

The date you see on our program page is the date you will arrive, though, you should not book travel until you have confirmed the date, airport and time in the travel form in your account! We require students to arrive a few days before classes start, giving you the chance to adjust to your new environment, settle in, and meet your fellow API peers and our amazing onsite team.

My application is taking a long time to load, what should I do?

After completing each step in our process, your application automatically saves! We recommend first logging out, clearing your cache/history, and logging back in. If it’s still not working, you can submit a ticket here, and someone on our team will fix it for you!

I accidentally put my email address in wrong, how can I fix this?

We get it, accidents happen! We can easily correct and update your email address. All you need to do is submit a tech ticket, and our team will gladly assist you.
