Student Stories for International Education Week

Monday

Meet Kaylin Alexander, a Senior Business Management major from UNL, who went abroad to Budapest, Hungary with the API International Business and Humanities program. Here’s what she has to say about her incredible experience:

“Choosing to study abroad is the best decision I’ve made here at UNL. It’s helped me grow as a person outside of my comfort zone. Budapest is a city with so much history, culture, and so many cool things to do. Hungarian culture is unique with its many influences, and it’s so great to experience it every day. The food here is great as well. My personal favorite is Lángos, Hungarian fried dough topped with sour cream and cheese, and of course the national dish, gulyás (goulash). I’ve met so many different people from all over the world and made so many great memories that I’ll cherish forever. If you’ve ever thought about studying abroad, do it!”

Tuesday

Let’s explore Salamanca, Spain through the eyes of our API Alumni, Ethan Montelongo! His favorite memories? “Solving puzzles with new friends in an escape room was a blast. But what truly stole my heart was that cooking class where we bonded over creating delicious Spanish dishes together. It was more than just a meal; it was a memory.”

“Overall, I greatly enjoyed my experience in Spain with API. So much so that I recommend it to everyone I know whenever I get the chance. This was one of the most engaging and thrilling experiences I’ve had in my life, and I am so happy that I went for it and actually studied abroad. Because of this experience, my eyes have been opened to the wonders of international travel, and I can’t wait for my next trip outside of the US. Thank you for allowing me to live in another culture for a period of time; I will never forget the places I went, the people I met, and the journeys I took. I will always remember this incredible trip that I was able to experience.”

For our next International Education week spotlight, meet Sadaf Nassiri! She’s a Minnesota State University Mankato student who journeyed abroad for a year with API.

“I am thrilled to share with you all the incredible journey I’ve been on for the past year!” Sadaf’s adventure began with a transformative Fall semester at the University of Stirling in Scotland. Her words resonate with the magic of Scotland’s landscapes, historical wonders, and the bonds she formed with people from around the world. These experiences have been nothing short of life-changing, broadening her horizons and deepening her appreciation for diverse cultures. Her message to those considering studying abroad: “Go for it without hesitation! The memories, friendships, and growth you’ll experience are truly priceless.”

Thursday

We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on Nina Thomas, a student from the University of Arkansas, who embarked on an incredible journey with API in Buenos Aires, Argentina

“I would say my favorite thing about studying abroad with API was all the activities we did, from cultural ones like tours, cooking, and dancing, but also some just for fun like picnics and escape rooms. My advice for anyone going abroad is to 1) really try to make local friends and 2) take advantage of your school breaks and travel! You may never know when you’ll return to your part of the world, so take advantage and travel, especially with the friends you make, while you can.”

Friday

Meet Elizabeth Norris, a UNC student who studied abroad with API in Dublin, Ireland! Elizabeth’s journey in Ireland has been nothing short of extraordinary, as she explores the captivating landscapes and embraces the unique culture of this beautiful country. From picturesque farms to daring bog adventures, her time with API has been filled with unforgettable experiences!

“I am so thankful for this experience in Dublin this summer and for API allowing me to see so many parts of life in Ireland. My favorite excursion that API put on was going to a nearby farm, getting to see all of the animals, and jumping in a bog! Studying abroad has allowed me to see so much more of the world, and I’m excited to keep traveling in the future!”
