Nestled in the beautiful city of Melbourne, Australia is one of our most exciting API programs. La Trobe University’s Melbourne campus is home to 600 acres of stunning parkland and waterways. The campus even has a major wildlife sanctuary! In addition, it boasts some of the most unique architecture you’ll find on a college campus.
Of course, it’s what matters on the inside for students wanting to study abroad here. Luckily, La Trobe University is one of the top campuses in the world in many aspects. Let’s dive into API’s Direct Enrollment Program.
Study at one of the world’s most elite institutions
More than a third of the subjects offered at La Trobe University rank in the latest QS World University Rankings. In addition, seven La Trobe subjects are on the world’s top 200 list! Those subjects are linguistics, agriculture, psychology, accounting/finance education, law, politics and international studies. No matter what you study in Melbourne, La Trobe’s reputation and commitment to quality education shines through.
Students who attend classes at La Trobe will find they have everything they need on the Melbourne campus. From a hairdresser to a travel agent; a theater to banks… students will have access to a wide variety of resources and entertainment options throughout the semester.
Internship and volunteer opportunities
In addition to classes, students can boost their educational goals while studying abroad with an internship or volunteer placement. Internships are available specifically within the fields of media and communications and consist of a 120-hour placement. The internship is credit-bearing and is equal to approximately 3-4 U.S. credits.
Because La Trobe University has a wildlife sanctuary on campus, students have the opportunity to volunteer there! You can learn more about wildlife management and rehabilitation. There are also volunteer opportunities in areas such as Australian studies, ESL, and cinema/media studies.
Explore Melbourne and beyond with API
Your API Resident Director, Rachael, grew up on a sheep farm 2 hours from Melbourne. She will help you learn and explore your host country throughout the semester. From the Eureka Skydeck, offering the best views of the city, to a kayaking tour, you will get to see Melbourne from the air, the water, and more!
API also offers excursions that many students say is the highlight of the semester. Visit the ancestral lands of the Koolin nation and learn more about Australia’s Aboriginal culture. Fly to Cairns (in Northern Queensland) for a three-night adventure that includes snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef! We also tour Phillip Island to see a penguin parade, feed kangaroos, and get up close to koalas! Because Australia has such a wide variety of people and wildlife, these excursions are some of the best you’ll find in any study abroad program!
