The University of Otago

The University of Otago offers unique research opportunities for students studying science. Located along the southern coast of the island, it’s New Zealand’s oldest university and home to one of the world’s best oceanography programs. For business majors, the University of Otago is also a great choice.

Dunedin’s location: fieldwork and research opportunities

Because Dunedin is located so close to the coast, the University of Otago has big opportunities for geographical-specific research and fieldwork. It’s a natural laboratory at your doorstep! New Zealand-specific content and exploratory field trips are common components to many science courses such as Botany and Marine Science. In addition, a number of courses offered at Otago provide the opportunity to undertake a small, independent research project.

Top business accreditations

The University of Otago boasts some of the best business accreditations in higher education (AACSB & EQUIS). Students can take classes in everything from accounting to tourism and hospitality. Students interested in learning more about their host country can also take classes on New Zealand and Maori Studies.

Explore New Zealand’s culture with API

As part of the Direct Enrollment Program, students get to take excursions and cultural trips throughout the semester. Spring excursions include a tour of the world-famous Cadbury World Chocolate Factory, a brewery tour, as well as a trip up the southern coast. Students also get to attend a Kiwi favorite: a Highlanders Rugby game!

A student favorite by far though, is the three-day adventure to Rotorua on New Zealand’s north island. Students spend three days exploring Maori culture and seeing art and dance exhibitions. They also explore the natural wonders of the island through a zipline tour, and a guided hike of the local jungle.

Volunteer opportunities are also available during your time in New Zealand. Read more about how API Gives Back here.
