So you’ve decided you want to travel abroad… congratulations! You’ve taken the first step to creating a priceless and rewarding experience. But things can quickly become overwhelming when you see just how many program options are out there. API alone is affiliated with nearly 250 institutions! So how can you know which study abroad company is the right fit for you? Today we’re listing out how API differs from the rest.
Affordability
One of API’s Core Values is “Remaining cost conscious to promote accessibility”. This is very important to us because we want as many people as possible to have a travel abroad experience. That’s why we provide some of the most comprehensive services (including medical and life insurance) while keeping our program prices among the lowest in the field. All of our excursions, including international ones, are included in the cost of your program; no hidden fees here!
API also offers intern, teach, work & volunteer programs
Most study abroad programs offer just that: study abroad programs. Not API! We offer internships in 8 countries as well as teach, work, or volunteer programs in 11! This opens up the opportunity to travel abroad to people who aren’t in school or are looking to boost up their resume.
In addition, we also offer internship and volunteer add-on’s for some of our study abroad programs. This provides students the chance to include an internship or volunteer placement either before or after the semester is over. Support before, during, and after the program
API takes pride in being available to you during ALL phases of the study abroad experience. Our program coordinators are on hand to help you get your student visa, housing, and class schedule secured before you depart.
Our resident directors are on site and available 24/7 to help you with everything from getting directions to getting to a doctor if needed. They also take you on amazing excursions across your host country (and even some international excursions!) and are there to be a tour guide, confidant and friend. When you return, API has staff to help you re-enter the states without a fuss. API also has an extensive network of alumni. Join our Facebook and LinkedIn groups to get relevant job postings and connect with other alum.
Experience
API has been “in the biz” since 1997 and in that time we have sent more than 40,000 students abroad. Our company was started by four women who studied abroad and wanted to pass the priceless experience on to others.
A better program finder
It can be frustrating searching through study abroad programs because while most companies list the locations and subjects you can choose from, sometimes there’s a lot more that goes into this big decision.
API’s program finder is meant for people with a variety of hobbies and lifestyles! It allows you to browse program locations based on a variety of factors.
If you’re an athlete looking to stay in shape while studying abroad, you can browse athletically-minded locations (like the University of Stirling, which has student sports leagues, or Massey University in New Zealand, which has a Global Student-Athlete program).
If you love hiking, kayaking, or camping, we list out the locations that boast a plethora of outdoor activities.
And for LGBTQ+ students, we’ve provided a list of countries that are LGBTQ-friendly to give you peace of mind.
