You’ve made your decision: Paris is your destination, and Parsons Paris is your program! You now know where you want to go, but you have questions about housing, applications, and more.  The good news? We have answers! Read on for the answers to our most common questions about studying abroad at Parsons Paris.

Can I get a single room?

You can! Students can opt for a single room, but there is an additional fee and it’s not guaranteed. These rooms are first come, first serve. The deposit holds your spot in line, and if you do not receive a single, you will be refunded for your single room deposit. Please mark your housing form as “single room, requested” to indicate you would like to be charged for a single room.

If you need a single room for medical reasons, let us know ASAP! You can submit your request to your program manager. Once rooms are assigned, we cannot make changes, and we want to make sure we meet all of your needs!

What is Parsons’ housing like?

Students may be in a residence hall or an apartment building. You will complete a housing form that will help the on-site team place you in the housing that will be best for you!

For the Pre College program, API students will stay in a hotel. All students stay in the same hotel, only a short metro ride away from Parsons, and stay in  either a single or double room. Each floor will also have a community assistant who will be living there full-time. During the first week, the community assistants offer times in which they accompany you to campus via public transportation. It’s a great opportunity to learn your way around!

I want to take a particular course. Can you guarantee it?

Unfortunately, API cannot 100% guarantee certain courses! Sometimes there are scheduling conflicts or course cancellations. That’s why it’s important to have alternatives approved and ready to go!

When students pay their confirmation fee and complete all step 1 forms, courses are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. The sooner you complete those first two steps, the more likely you are to get into your first-choice course.

Will I be in courses all day?

It depends on the course! Some courses are full-day and some courses are half-day. You can learn more about your options in our Class Finder

Do I need to take a placement exam?

No, you don’t need to take a placement test for this program!

Will I need to bring supplies for classes with me?

Some of our courses do require supplies! You are welcome to bring some of these items with you, but there are plenty of options to purchase these items once you have already arrived in Paris. If you need help figuring out where to purchase your supplies, you can always ask your on-site team or your professor!

Do I need a student visa for this program?

If you hold a US or EU passport, you will not need a student visa! For additional information on student visas, check out this resource on our website

FAQs for Pre-College Program

Are students always accompanied by a chaperone?

During the day, students are welcome to get out and explore the city! Upon arrival, you will have a comprehensive orientation where you  learn how to use public transportation and safely navigate around the city.

This program does have a mandatory curfew every night. Students must be back at the hotel by 11 p.m. Students will be checked in to ensure that all students have returned safely to their housing.

What if I want to stay out past curfew?

Parents are able to authorize curfew exceptions with at least 72 hours advance notice. Parents will be given this information before the program begins so they are able to make requests well in advance.

What is the student-to-staff ratio?

We generally try to have 1 staff person living full-time on-site for every 10-15 students in the program. This ensures that each student has a contact person in case they have questions or concerns.

Are excursions mandatory?

All excursions for the pre-college program are mandatory. Parents are able to authorize exceptions for students, as long as they are given at least 72 hours in advance.
