University College London is home to over 29,000 students from more than 150 countries. It’s also consistently ranked as one of the top 10 universities in the world, admitting the highest caliber of students.
What we love most about UCL: the campus was a pioneer in study abroad, admitting Japanese students as early as 1863! Still not sold? How about these facts: University College London was the first university in England to admit students of all races, religions and classes. In addition, it was the first to give female students equal standing to their male counterparts!
If this campus sounds like the place for you, we have good news! API is now accepting applications for our Spring 2020 Direct Enrollment Program. Applications are due in September!
Here are a few more reasons why you might like studying abroad at University College London
This program is easy to mold to your major and interests
University College London has a wide range of academic departments, providing study abroad students with ample opportunities to select courses related to their major or interests. Whether you consider yourself “right-brained” or “left-brained”; STEM-focused or creative focused; there’s a perfect option for you at UCL. Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Global Health, Education, Computer Science, European Studies, Law, and Statistical Science are just a few examples.
University College London emphasizes small-group teaching
If you thrive in a smaller classroom setting, get ready! UCL boasts one of the best staff-to-student ratios in the UK (1:9). In addition, every study abroad student at UCL is assigned a tutor! This is a great opportunity to ensure that you’re getting the most out of your educational experience. Tutors help students achieve maximum benefit from lectures and also help them develop study skills to help them thrive and succeed in the British academic system.
Live with other students in a beautiful, safe area of London
Students in this program are housed in privately owned accommodations with other UCL students in London. Each building is located near a public transportation stop such as the tube or the bus, making it easy to get to campus.
Want to cook a few meals at home? These accommodations also include kitchens with an oven, stove, microwave and of course a refrigerator. In addition, wireless Internet is provided as well as a weekly cleaning service (to the communal kitchen/living areas).
Explore more of the UK, with excursions included in your program cost
API is proud to offer a variety of activities and events outside the classroom. Our on-site staff will take you to beautiful and historic areas of the UK, including Canterbury and Oxford. A unique, API-exclusive event includes a tour of Harlaxton Manor! Students tour the manor and learn more about its history. They also take part in an Afternoon Tea and a game of Croquet on the manor grounds.
Another excursion you can plan on for Spring 2020: Peaks, Plague and Puddings! API will take you out of bustling city to the rolling hills of Derbyshire. Sample world-famous pudding at the Bakewell Tart and visit the National Justice Museum in Nottingham.
Students stay in Eyam, which is known as the “plague village.” In 1665, when plague broke out, the villagers chose to isolate themselves, preventing infection from spreading. These days Eyam is a great base for outdoor activities, taking in the beautiful landscape of the national park. Before heading back to London, students will have a chance to explore a stately home that was once home to the rich and famous of English history.
